Lie, Lie, Lie to Get Elected
Newly sworn in Congressman Bill Owens laid bare four lies less than a day after taking office. Contrary to his campaign promises, immediately upon arriving in Washington Owens:
- voted for the public option health care plan,
- voted to cut Medicare benefits,
- voted to tax health care benefits, and
- voted to increase taxes on middle income Americans.
If it is good enough for the American public, it is good enough for Congress
Representative Joe Wilson (R-SC) has it right to propose that the Democratic overhaull of the health care system require participation of members of Congress instead of the meaningless “may enroll” that the Democrats currently suggest. If Congress is going to create a public option, especially if it is now or foreseeably going to be a required program for the American public, then members of Congress should, without exception, be required to participate. Maybe the risk of participation will give them pause before replacing the current health care system.
